The Last RC-96 Blog

Shall we begin?

The GAL adapter has begun. I have the basic building blocks in place. The S.C.A.B.s (Supplemental Circuit Addition Boards) are from my EPROM programmer and form the adjustable boost supply that converts 5V to 12V up to 16V to engage the GAL programming mode. Additional circuits will be added to produce a response to the auto-select mode (where A9 is brought to 12V to read the device ID). This will allow the adapter to communicate its presence to the programmer allowing seamless configuration to occur.

The ole’ PCB…

The age of the PCB is a concern. Dating to 1995, it is over 30 years old and has been who-knows-where and handled who-knows-how. I’ve considered my options, but I am leaning towards using the highly-active, water-clean flux that I generally use for new PCB builds. Any other activity will expose the PCB to additional stress and may do more harm than good. I will have to start off slow, with 2-lead parts (like the resistors) but this is how I like to start anyway,
